Bookmap System Requirements

Bookmap® is compatible with Windows, Mac, and Linux (Linux support is limited). You can install Bookmap on multiple computers, but it can only run on one at a time. However, the Bookmap Global+ version enables access to Replay Mode on a secondary machine.

These are the technical specifications required to successfully install and run Bookmap. During market activity spikes, both Bookmap and other apps may consume more CPU/RAM, so plan resources accordingly.

Bookmap for Windows​

Minimum:

  • Operating system: 64-bit Windows 8 or higher
  • Display resolution: Minimum of 1280x960 ¹
  • Minimum of 8 GB RAM and 10 GB free disk space (The application itself takes ~500MB, but the cache requires a lot more storage)
  • Processor: Intel Core i5 (or equivalent)
  • Internet: Stable connection with a minimum speed of 5 Mbit/sec
  • Mouse: Middle button required for one-click trading add-on feature

Recommended System Specifications for Light Use (no MBO, low resolution or limited depth data, no heavy software running in parallel):

  • OS: Windows 10
  • Display: 1920x1080 ¹
  • Video card: Minimum 1 GB memory supporting OpenGL 3.3 (we recommend a modern one, released within the last 4 years)
  • RAM: 16 GB or more
  • Storage: SSD for Bookmap data folder (100 GB free space)
  • CPU: Intel Core i7/AMD Ryzen 7 (or better) with 4+ cores ² (consistent 2.6GHz+) ⁵
  • Internet: Stable connection, 50Mbit/s minimum
  • Mouse: Middle button required for one-click trading add-on

Recommended System Specifications for Heavy Use (MBO, high-resolution full depth data, e.g. Rithmic or some cryptocurrency providers):

  • OS: Windows 10
  • Display: 1920x1080 ¹
  • Video card: Modern card with minimum 1 GB memory supporting OpenGL 3.3 (Requirements increase with additional/larger monitors)
  • RAM: 32 GB (More if running other software in the background) ³
  • Storage: SSD for Bookmap data folder with 100 GB free space (More if you want to keep more data loaded e.g., leave Bookmap running for a week)
  • CPU: Modern Intel Core i9/AMD Ryzen 9 (or better) with 8+ cores ² (consistent 3GHz+) ⁵
  • Internet: Stable connection, 100Mbit/s minimum, low package loss
  • Mouse: Middle button required for one-click trading add-on
  • .NET Framework: Version 3.5 or higher

¹ Effective resolution (assuming scaling is set to 100%). For instance, a 1920x1080 display meets the requirements at 100% scaling but not at 150%, as resolution effectively becomes 1280x720.

² Note: Don't confuse cores and threads. Some CPUs marketed as Core i7 line, like 7500U with 2 cores and 4 threads, are below the recommended specification.

³ Keep in mind that seemingly light software, like a browser, can consume a lot of RAM/CPU depending on usage. Bookmap alone requires around ~8GiB of free RAM, but memory consumed by other software you plan to run simultaneously adds to the requirements.

⁴ Bookmap core typically uses up to 6 cores in most workloads, but running add-ons or other software could use additional cores.

⁵ With modern laptop CPUs, it's important that the CPU can maintain its frequency during sustained loads, as CPUs frequency can be configured in wide range by manufacturers. Some laptops, though they appear to have decent processors, may have low base frequencies (e.g., 1.2GHz) due to power or thermal limitations. Despite short boosts to around 2.8GHz, these CPUs often lower frequency under sustained loads, like during market volatility, causing performance drops when most needed. Note: you do not need your CPU to maintain the required frequency in synthetic benchmarks, as those are not very realistic (makes CPU work ‘harder’ than needed in real-world tasks).

Bookmap for macOS​

Minimum:

  • MacOS 10.12 or higher
  • 8 GB RAM

Preferred Configuration:

  • 24 GB RAM

Once Download is Complete, Follow the Regular DMG Installation Process:

  1. Double-click the .dmg to make its content available. Name will show up in the Finder sidebar. Usually, a window opens showing the content as well.
  2. Drag the application from the .dmg window into /Applications to install. Note: This step may require an administrator password.

If Bookmap does not start:

  • Open Finder, press CMD+SHIFT+G, and paste: ~/Library/Application Support/Bookmap/Logs/

To find Bookmap Logs on macOS:

  • Start an application.
  • Go to Select File ⟶ Open user folder.

To find external adapters on macOS:

  • Go to Setting ⟶ Manage plugins.

Currently Available Adapters for macOS:

  • Rithmic,
  • dxFeed,
  • CQG,
  • IB,
  • iqFeed,
  • Cedro,
  • Cryptocurrency adapters.

Adapters NOT Supported by macOS:

  • Stage5,
  • Gain,
  • Ninja,
  • XTrader

Intel-based processors vs. Apple Silicon (M series) processors​

Bookmap offers two versions, one for Intel-based Mac and one for Apple Silicon. The Apple Silicon version fully utilizes the new architecture, providing improved performance and user experience.

For the M-series version, GPU acceleration is enabled only on macOS 13.0 and higher, released on October 24, 2022.
